Meeting Policy

You don’t need to be a large corporation to be able to afford top notch legal services.

I have over 20 years of experience working with global corporations, university technology transfer offices, government entities, and numerous businesses. Patent and trademark attorneys with this much experience can command $500 per hour or more, putting them out of reach of most small businesses and individual entrepreneurs.

I founded Trenner Law Firm with the goal of providing small businesses and individual entrepreneurs with high quality legal services at a reasonable cost.

I personally handle every case. When you work with Trenner Law Firm, I will be working directly with you.

For these reasons, a lot of people want to work to work with my law firm.

This requires that I limit the amount of time I spend meeting in-person with my clients.

Prospective clients – someone who is looking to hire an attorney.

If an attorney offers to meet for free with a prospective client in the hopes of getting hired, it has to make you wonder why that attorney doesn’t have much else to do.

I do not offer free in-person consultations to prospective clients. Doing so would not be fair to my paying clients. I do not offer in-person meetings with anyone who is not already a client of the law firm.

Instead, I offer prospective clients a free strategy session by phone. These sessions include understanding the needs of the prospective client, and if I can help, providing a roadmap with a detailed explanation of the services I can provide, and a flat fee quote. A paid video strategy session is also available.

By not agreeing to meet in-person with every prospective client who calls my office, I protect my time to be available for clients who have already made the commitment to protect their invention (patents) and/or brand (trademarks).

Clients of Trenner Law Firm.

Meeting with existing clients is a different story. Some attorneys are able to spend time meeting with their clients by charging higher rates, thus greatly reducing the number of people who can afford to meet with them. Some attorneys are also able to spend time meeting with their clients by handing off the actual work on a client’s case to lower paid (and often less experienced) junior associates and patent agents.

My services are in high demand, and I am a solo attorney. If I agreed to meet in-person with everyone who wanted to make sure that I’m a real person, I would never have time to get the real work done for my clients.

Getting the project done on-time for a reasonable flat fee is important to my clients.

My clients are my priority. I offer all of my clients the option of free video meetings to discuss their project.

How can you meet with me in-person?

I do meet in-person with a select few of my clients. These clients are typically small businesses who have ongoing patent and trademark filings, and need to meet with me in-person to review their pending matters and update their IP protection and filing strategy.

In-person meetings are available if you can answer yes to the following questions:

  • Are you a current client of the law firm?
  • Am I currently working on a project for you that you need to meet with me to discuss?

AND

  • Have you spent a minimum $5,000 per month in law firm fees (excluding government/foreign filing fees) with my law firm for each of the past 3 months?

OR

  • Am I currently working on a project for you that you have paid more than $7,500 in law firm fees (excluding government/foreign filing fees)?

If you don’t meet these requirements, remember that all of my clients receive the same high level of service, while saving thousands of dollars over what a traditional law firm might have to charge to cover their overhead.

And you can still visit our offices to drop off your signed paperwork and notarize documents.

I understand if my approach to meeting with clients does not meet your needs. We are not the right law firm for everyone.

If you do want to work with my law firm, remember that all of the legal services I offer can be handled quickly, effectively, and at a reasonable flat fee, through my online law firm option.
